Disney Springs Dress Up Like a Princess
There are currently 12 official Disney princesses as of this publishing. The first Disney princess to grace our screens and our hearts was Snow White in 1937, and what has transpired is something truly only Disney can do. Moana is the most current Disney princess after joining the princess squad in 2016 but not every princess is created equal.
In this instance, we're talking about fashion. Each Disney princess comes from a different land, era, family, etc... It offers Disney creatives a chance to get imaginative with each princess's look and what they would wear. But which princesses are the most fashionable?
10 Merida (Brave)
Brave came out in 2012 and shared the life of the Medieval princess, Merida. Merida was different than the other women she knew in Scotland and wasn't interested in marrying someone just to fit in with tradition. She was an excellent shooter who excelled in the bow and arrow. However, her tom-boy lifestyle didn't sit well with her parents.
Throughout the movie, Merida sticks to olive greens and deep blue dresses. The few dresses she wore always complimented her fiery red hair and made her eyes pop beautifully.
9 Belle (Beauty & The Beast)
The animated classicBeauty and the Beast hit theaters in 1991. Belle is the only daughter of a French merchant who panics when she can't find her father. When she tracks him down, he was taken captive by a former prince who was now a beast. Belle takes her father's place as a prisoner and lives under the Beast's rule while her father looked for help.
During her time in the Beast's mansion, Belle fell in love with him and wore a plethora of magical dresses. Her gold ballgown is one of the most iconic dresses in Disney history.
8 Jasmine (Aladdin)
A year afterBeauty and the Beastreleased,Aladdin hit screens and introduced the love story between Princess Jasmine and Aladdin. Jasmine was the likable daughter of a Sultan who lived a royal yet sheltered life. Her life truly began when she met "street rat" Aladdin. The two embarked on an incredible journey together before marrying.
Throughout the film, Jasmine's blue outfit became recognizable to both Disney and non-Disney friends alike. But she also wore a few other outfits that had viewers jealous of her closet! She's the queen of the crop top.
7 Mulan (Mulan)
The animated version of Mulan released in 1998 but the live-action remake just released earlier this year. Mulan broke barriers by transforming herself into a man in order to fight in the military on behalf of her father. Her father was too old and injured to fight with the younger generations. Mulan did what she could to bring back honor to her family.
Before transforming into a soldier, Mulan wore stunning Chinese garments in a variety of colors and prints. Even as a soldier, Mulan looked radiant because it was then that she felt like her true self.
6 Ariel (Little Mermaid)
The Little Mermaid is over 30 years old and is still one of the most beloved Disney movies on its roster. While many people think of Ariel with her seashell bikini top and fins, Ariel should also be known for the dresses she wore.
Not only was her wedding dress spectacular with its puffy sleeves and golden crown, but the casual-wear that she wore around Prince Eric's castle was epic. Not only was she a strong and independent mer-woman but she was also low-key stylish.
5 Tiana (The Princess & The Frog)
It's hard to believe thatThe Princess and the Frog came out over 10 years ago in 2009! Tiana's story quickly became a Disney success and made her one of the best princesses in the Disney universe.
In the animated film, Tiana was a struggling waitress who was working different jobs to save up enough money to buy her own restaurant. After learning how to cook for her late father, Tiana wanted to make her parents proud by becoming an entrepreneur. Along the way, she literally kisses a frog (who is a prince in real life) and gets turned into a frog herself. She then goes on an adventure to become human again with her prince in frog's clothing. When Tiana is human, her dresses are a mixture of everyday-woman and total royalty.
4 Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
Sleeping Beauty released in 1959 with Princess Aurora not knowing she was a princess. As a baby in the royal family, an evil with named Maleficent cast a spell on Aurora for her to die on her 16th birthday. The only way to save Aurora was for her parents to send her away with three fairy godmothers for a life of solidarity in the woods.
As Aurora grows, she becomes a stunning young woman; however, she's not able to wear as many looks as fans would have liked. Her daily dress had a brown skirt with a black corset but the dress that gets all the love is the ballgown she wore at the end of the film.
3 Anna (Frozen)
Before Anna became Queen Arendelle inFrozen II, she was a princess. Between her and her sister Elsa, Anna was the goofy and light-hearted one. She wanted to have fun, throw royal parties, and explore the town.
While she lived by the seat of her pants, she (ironically) wore gorgeous dresses that brought out her green eyes. Greens, blues, and purple hues took over Anna's wardrobe as she quickly became one of the most beloved princesses of our time.
2 Elsa (Frozen)
Elsa became Queen of Arendelle far too young after her parents died in a shipwreck in Frozen. She wasn't ready to be queen. She still felt like she was a little girl who was trying to contain her magical powers. Over time, Elsa had no choice but to grow up quickly and to put her powers in check. And even though Elsa is considered a queen instead of a princess, she was a princess at one time.
Due to her icy powers, Elsa wore whites and blues to match her skills. Her blue dress (far left) became everyone's dream gown come Halloween. And let's not forget about her supreme braid.
1 Moana (Moana)
Moana came out in 2016 and introduced Disney's first Polynesian princess, Moana. Moana was young but knew she had what it took to save her island after there's a disruption in the island's plants. And while the ocean called Moana to answer her true purpose, her parents weren't able to release Moana from their grip quite yet.
Moana's traditional Polynesian garb, jewelry, and headdresses were extraordinary. The colors and textures were popping off the screen, making Moana a beautifully dressed princess.
